Chapter 20
After calling his brother and telling him he was on his way to see him, Big Mo had to light himself another blunt. He still couldn’t believe this crooked ass cop tried to play him like that. When his brother informed him that Gaines was playing him, he probably didn’t mean for him to kill the detective. Fuck that shit, Mo thought. Ain’t no crooked ass cop gon’ extort me. Pulling into the sixth district police department, Mo turned down his music. He reached into the glove compartment and pulled out a stack of cash. He had to laugh a little.
If Stacy knew that he kept this much cash in an unlocked glove compartment, she would loose it. Oh well, he thought. What she don’t know won’t hurt her. He got out of his truck and walked through the twin set of double doors. Nodding and waving at the various officers in the department, he made his way to the elevator. Big Mo smiled. These dumb asses don’t suspect a thing. All they knew was that ninety percent of the time that Big Mo came to see Chief Murphy; a drug bust came soon after that. The flat foots never knew that they were being played. Brad and Mo had set it up like that to make it look like Big Mo was a snitch.
That couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact Big Mo was a more honorable man than his brother was. Big Mo knew that his brother had probably seriously thought about selling him out on a couple of occasions; especially for the murders of Clarence and Janice Allen.
As Mo walked he thought back to that unthinkable night on July 17th 1999 that now tainted his soul. Although he had millions socked away and his future seemed as shiny as the twenty thousand dollar a pop Giovanni rims on his truck, the Chedda Boyz general had one issue that wore on his spirit. Every time he looked at Stacy, guilt washed over him like Niagara Falls. Big Mo remembered all too well that fateful night some ten years ago when he and Bennie were carving their niche in the dope game.
“Stupid muthafucka,” Mo mumbled to himself recalling how Clarence, Stacy’s step-father had tried to steal from him.
He could still hear Clarence’s skull crack from the impact of the Louisville slugger baseball bat that Mo used to bash his head in. A Mo continued to walk it was almost as if he could still vividly see the look of horror that was still on Janice’s face when Bennie dragged her inside the house and slit her throat from ear to ear. It actually hurt him to know that he had personally disposed of the two bodies by dumping them in the lake, and now has to face the women he loves. Sadly, Mo didn’t find out that the couple he and Bennie had killed were Stacy’s and CeCe’s mother and Step father until he and Stacy had been dating for almost three months.
